Parliamentary standing committee on Social Welfare ministry yesterday emphasized undertaking separate programmes, creating volunteers and conducting awareness campaigns to evict illegal establishments from the footpaths with a view to building Dhaka as a neat and clean city free from traffic jams.
The committee underscored the need at its 16th meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Mozammel Hossain in the chair.
The meeting recommended filling the vacant posts of probationary officers quickly.
The committee also recommended to the concerned bodies to take steps so that only truly old, helpless and hapless persons can stay in the old-homes.
