Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Mohammad Sayeed Khokon on Wednesday announced 2016 as the year of cleanliness for Dhaka city through taking a number of initiatives to make the city clean.
“It’s true that some of the politicians and police officials are involved in establishing infrastructures illegally blocking different roads in the city. But we are monitoring everything and already have taken different initiatives to make the roads free” he said.
Hanif said, “We could not change the city over a night. But with proper planning and initiatives we will turn Dhaka into a clean city.”
While speaking at a press conference at the Hotel Sonargaon in the city he came up with the remarks and announced their work plans.
Earlier, a presentation was shown on the whole work planning to make the city clean.
According to the presentation to avoid garbage from the roadsides secondary transfer station will be established in every ward in the city and ‘everyday cleaning’ will have to finished by 7am.
To monitor the work of the cleaners a team tracker system will be launched besides mass people involvement and their participation have to ensure through different media including the social media.
In 2016 DSCC will establish 50 public toilets at the different public places in the city and with the help of Water Aid Bangladesh 25 more luxurious public toilets will be set up and within 2017 the number will be 50.
Within 2016 LED lights will be set up at every roads of DSCC area and a hotline and emergency response team ‘DSCC 24/7 hotline’ will be set up to receive different alleges from the mass people. Besides DNCC have planned to reward people who will perform best to remain the city clean from different categories including the journalists in this issue and also will arrange meditation and oath programme at different institutions for the city dwellers.
White Shirt Day: White is the symbol of cleanness and holiness and to inspire people mentally to the cleanness programme DNCC will announce ‘White Shirt Day’ to observe. On that day people will wear white dresses.
