The trial to form the Under-23 national football team for the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament started yesterday under the Spanish coach Moreno Sanchez and Syed Golam Zilani.
Both the foreign and local coaches are jointly conducting the trial at the Bir Shreshtha Mostafa Kamal Stadium (Astroturf), Kamlapur with 40 players while the three-day tryout will be concluded tomorrow.
They (coaches) will select 20 players for the Under-23 national side, who will also play in the upcoming SA Games to be held in India early in February 2016.
Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) has taken a decision in their last executive committee meeting that two teams, the main national side and the national Under-23 from hosts Bangladesh will play in the Bangabandhu Gold Cup tournament to be held from January 8 to 20.
Therefore, BFF organised the trial to form the Under-23 team, which will ultimately play in the SA Games.
Meanwhile, apart from two teams from Bangladesh, six teams from abroad will participate in the third edition of the Bangabandhu Cup. Malaysia, Cambodia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bahrain and Maldives have already agreed to take part in the eight teams tournament.
