BCB plans T20 meet for women ahead of World Cup

Sports Reporter

In a bid to fare well in World Cup, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to arrange a Twenty20 tournament for women’s team ahead of the upcoming ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Cup.
The eves’ team doesn’t have any national and international commitment before the mega event. And so, the board is mulling to organise a BCL-like tournament on short format for their preparation.
Ashiqur Rahman Majumdar, assistant coach of Bangladesh women’s team, admitted the matter and said, “I’ve heard that the board is thinking to host a tournament for women’s to keep them in the game and hone their skills and techniques.”
The World T20 for women’s and men’s will be held in India simultaneously in between March-April. A total of 58 tournament matches including 23 matches for women’s will be played in the 27-day tournament in Bengaluru, Chennai, Dharamsala, Kolkata, Mohali, Mumbai, Nagpur and
New Delhi.
New Delhi and Mumbai will host the semi-finals on 30 and 31 March respectively, while Eden Gardens in Kolkata will be the venue of the 3 April finals.
The women’s event will carry the total prize money of  $400,000, which is more than  122 per cent from the last edition held in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh will start their World Cup campaign with the match against the hosts in Bengaluru on March 15.
They will next face-off England at the same venue on March 17. In Chennai, they will lock horns with West Indies on March 20. They will take on Pakistan in their last group match in New Delhi on March 24.
The eves team, who are in vacation after returning home from Thailand playing the ICC Women’s Twenty20 World Qualifier, will commence their practice from December 25.
But some of women’s players have been practicing regularly in Mirpur under the guideline of assistant coach Ashiqur Rahman Majumdar.
Head coach Janak Gamage, who is now in Sri Lanka, is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on December 23, just two days ahead of the training camp.
