Jamaat leader held in capital

A member of Jamaat-e-Islami central committee was arrested in the capital yesterday from the Dhanmondi house of Daily Naya Diganta Managing Director. The arrestee, Mezbah Uddin Bhuiyan, 50, was arrested from Naya Diganta MD Shibbir Mahmud's Dhanmondi residence at around 12:30am, said Mohammad Helal Uddin, OC (Investigation) of Dhanmondi Police Station. However, Shibbir Mahmud claimed that Mezbah is a tenant at his house.
Police claimed that the arrested was an accused in more than a dozen criminal cases filed with Sudharam Police Station in Noakhali.
