DU Senate's winter session Dec 31

The winter session of Dhaka University Senate, the highest decision making body of the university, will be held at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban on the campus on December 31, said a press release yesterday.
The senate session will begin at 3 pm with Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique in the chair, the release added.

14 students get SM Hall Scholarship

Fourteen students of Salimullah Muslim Hall of Dhaka University (DU) have been awarded ‘SM Hall Scholarship’ for their outstanding academic performances.
DU Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed scholarships among the students as the chief guest at a function at VC's lounge on the university campus. Provost of Salimullah Muslim Hall Golam Mohammad Bhuiyan presided over the function and house tutors of the hall were present.
The VC urged the students to equip themselves with moral values to make Bangladesh a peaceful country. "We want to produce morally developed graduates along with their academic excellence at the university" he said.
The recipients of scholarships are- Sheikh Farid and M Aminul Islam (Institute of Social Welfare and Research), M Sohrab Hossain (English), Masrur Bin Ansari (Law), M Abdul Hannan (International Relations), M Atiqul Islam (Information Science and Library Management), Al-Amin Khondoker (Finance), Ali Ashraf (Islamic Studies), Tareq Ahmad (Development Studies), M Mohsin (Economics), M Rasel Ahmed (Geography and Environment), Muhammad Abdur Rahim (Islamic History and Culture), M Sohag Miah (Peace and Conflict Studies) and M Zahirul Islam (Public Administration).

Intra-varsity financial competency contest held
Finance Forum, a wing of Career Counseling Centre of United International University (UIU), organised the Intra-varsity financial competency competition branded as ‘FOCUS 15’ on its campus recently, says a press release.  
‘FOCUS 15’ is an exclusive idea to judge the capabilities of the students in ‘financial reasoning’. Core concept of this Idea is to make the participants of the programme to find out the critical financial reasons because of which a company’s financial performance deviates from the expectations.
The competition consists of Quiz (1st round), Financial Statement analysis & Manipulation (2nd round) and financial case solving and presentation (Final round).
Top three of the competition are Sadman Shoumik Ahmed (champion), Md. Tanvir Hossain (1st runner-up) and Yeasin Md Esha (2nd runner-up).
UIU Vice Chancellor M Rezwan Khan presided over the ceremonies while Md Saifur Rahman Patwary (Azad) Deputy Managing Director, First Security Islamic Bank Limited, was the chief guest.  Salah Uddin Ahmed, senior vice president & head of Research and Development Unit, Dhaka Bank Limited and Humaira Sharmeen, managing editor, The Bonikbarta, were present as the special guests.  
Students of different departments, teachers, officers and the invited guests were present in the programmes.

Day-long training programme held at NSU
A day long Training on Plagiarism and Reference Management Software Zotero was held at E-resource Access Centre, North South University Library (NSU), Bashundhara, Baridhara in the capital on Saturday, says a press release.
Bangladesh Association of Librarians, Information Scientists and Document lists (BALID) in collaboration with North South University organized this training where 40 teachers, researchers and librarians of various government, autonomous and private institutions in the country were participated.
The training was delivered in different sessions which included the details of Zotero, i.e. installation, use, support and promote, different procedures to support users’ academic and research activities; Mendely as relevant support system for reference management was also discussed.
Md Mukhlesur Rahman of Independence University, Md AKM Nurul Alam, assistant director of Bangladesh Bank and Kazi Farhad Noman of Southeast University were resource persons of this session.
Gour Gobinda Goswami, vice-chancellor (in-charge), NSU was the chief guest and Vasanthi Rajendran, director, CIRDAP was the special guest at the certificate awarding ceremony.

Chinese professor meets DU VC

Professor Xiaochun Qiao of the Institute of Population Research, Peking University, China called on Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique today at his office.
Dr Mohammad Mainul Islam of the Department of Population Sciences, DU was present on the occasion, a DU press release said.
During the meeting they discussed various bilateral issues. They underscored the need for enhancing south-south cooperation and collaboration.
Prof Arefin thanked Professor Qiao for his visit to Dhaka University and keen interest in strengthening mutual academic and research activities between the two universities.
