A former director of Matuail Maa o Sishu Hospital died from suffocation as a fire broke out at a building in the capital’s Motijheel area yesterday morning, reports UNB. The victim was Prof Dr SM Shah Newaz Bin Tobid, 65, a resident of Siddheshwari area in the capital. Officials at the Fire Service central control room said the fire broke out on the second floor of Haji Mansion in the area around 11:45am. On information, three firefighting units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around 12:15pm. The body of the victim was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Officer-in-charge of Motijheel police station Liton Kumar Shaha said the man died from suffocation in the fire, but could not say what exactly caused the fire. Further details of the incident are still awaited.
