Youth’s body recovered

Police recovered body of an unidentified young man from Kalidaha Sagar area in Bogra sadar upazila yesterday morning. The slaughtered body of the youth, aged about 24, was found in a field. He is dressed in trousers and brown T-shirt. Md. Toriqul Islam, sub-inspector of Bogra Shadar police station, said the body has been sent to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. A murder case has been lodged with the PS in this connection, the OC said.
Man beaten to death by ‘in-laws’
Chuadanga: A man was beaten to death allegedly by his father-in-law and brother-in-law over family feud at Farmpara in Sadar upazila early yesterday, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Tutul Hossain, son of late Abdul Khalek of the area. Officer-in charge of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station Saiful Islam said Tutul’s wife Nazma Khatun went to her father’s house at Farmpara following a family feud. On Saturday, when Tutul went to his in-laws house to bring back Nazma he locked into an altercation with Nur Mia, father-in-law of Tutul. At one stage of altercation, Nur Mia and his son beat up Tutul with GI pipe around 11pm, leaving him critically injured.
Later, locals rescued him and sent him to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries early Sunday. However, police arrested Nazma Khatun in this connection.
Training on newborn held
OUR CORRESPONDENT, Noakhali
A training programme was held on application of 7.1 per cent chlorhexidine solution to newborn’s umbilical cord at Sonaimuri upazila health complex in Noakhali yesterday. Bangabandhu Sheik Mujib Medical University organised the programme. According to the speakers, a total of 28 newborns die out of 1,000 every year. Application of 7.1 per cent chlorhexidine solution can reduce umbilical infections and cut 20 per cent of the death, they added. Dr Delar Hossain, civil surgeon of Noakhali, inaugurated the programme while upazila health and family welfare officer Dr Afrin Mahamood presided over the training programme.
