US star basketball player and two times Olympic gold medallist Ruthie Bolton concluded her four day tour Bangladesh yesterday.
Ruthie Bolton, a guard of the American national women’s team played the Olympics in 1996 and 200, came here as part of the American Center Sports Diplomacy programme.
Ruthie Bolton played an exhibition basketball match along with US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat played at American International School (AIS/D) Gym, Baridhara.
The Olympian gold medalist during her stay in Dhaka conducted a skills training with nearly 60 Bangladeshi youth athletes. The exhibition match was the culminating event for a four-day intensive basketball workshop sponsored by the US Department of State’s Sport United programme and Nari Uddug Kendra.
Ruthie Bolton is one of the most accomplished female athletes in the world. She is a two-time Olympic gold medallist, USA Female Basketball Player of the Year, Sports Illustrated Best Woman Athlete, and one of only four players to be named to the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2011.
US Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Bernicat participated in the match and delivered remarks about the role of sports in empowering youth and women.
