EC suspends returning officer

The Election Commission (EC) yesterday suspended the returning officer of Kolaroa Municipality in Satkhira over misuse of power and violation of law in discharging election duties.
The Commission issued a notification in this regard on Sunday, mentioning that the returning officer, M Abul Hossain, accepted the nomination paper of the Kolaroa mayoral candidate Aminul Islam illegally and declared it valid through misuse of power and by acting with an ill motive beyond his legal authority.
The order said that the returning officer has committed an offence punishable under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1985.
