The sub-committee on maternal health development under a Jatiya Sangsad project yesterday stressed the need for raising mass awareness involving MPs to check maternal mortality and early marriages, reports BSS. The Maternal Health Development and Ensuring Safe Delivery Sub-Committee was constituted under the "Strengthening Parliament's Capacity in Integrating Population Issues into Development (SPCPD)" project being implemented by parliament secretariat with the financial support of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). The sub-committee in its second meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the capital also decided to hold consultations on the issue with the parliamentary standing committees on health and finance ministries, according to a parliament secretariat press release. Convener of the sub-committee and Chief Whip ASM Firoz chaired the meeting attended by its members AFM Ruhal Huq, M Habib-a- Millat, Fazilatunnesa, Advocate Umme Kulsum Smrity and Dr M Enamur Rahman.
