New pay scale for MPO teachers from July
Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid

Teachers of the educational institutions availing the facility of Monthly Pay Order (MPO) will get their salaries and allowances under the government’s new pay scale, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said yesterday.
The MPO-listed teachers of different schools and colleges were not included in the government gazette of the Eighth National Pay Scale on December 15, which had caused discontent among over five lakh teachers in the country.
Taking note of the simmering discontent, the Education Ministry yesterday issued the circular to the effect that these teachers would also get all benefits under the new pay scale from July 1.
“As the MPO-listed teachers were not included in the gazette for the new pay scale, it had created confusion. The MPO-listed teachers will also get their salaries and other benefits as per the new pay scale,” the Education Minister told reporters yesterday at his office in the Secretariat.

The minister said that the move comes following a letter from the Finance Ministry on Sunday, which gave a go-ahead signal on the issue.
Responding to a query on displeasure of the teachers of public universities because of scrapping of the time scale and selection grade in the new pay scale, Nahid said some steps will be initiated to address their grievance.
“We don’t want the teachers to be deprived of any benefits. We will take necessary steps with regard to their status and salary benefits that will satisfy them, though it may take some time to resolve the matter,” he said.
“As the time scale and selection grade have been dropped in the new pay scale, we will take some other measures for the public university teachers regarding to address their concerns regarding status and salaries,” Nahid added.
The leaders of the BCS (General) Education Association also met the Education Minister to discuss the issue of, what they call, deprivation in the new pay scale.
The leaders said they would have to take the path of movement if they continue to be deprived of their due.
