Share prices fall slightly

BSS

Key share price indices at the country’s twin bourses -- Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) and Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) - dropped again on the first trading day of the week yesterday.
The major indices at both Dhaka and Chittagong stock exchanges ended marginally lower as trading remained lackluster, repots BSS.
DSEX - the broader index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) - finished the opening session of the week 9.33 points down at 4511.53, with the blue-chip DS30 and Shariah DSES falling marginally to 1714.63 and 1088.96 accordingly.
Market analysts said the indices managed to hold their latest support level as transaction showed rising trend while some investors were repositioning. The day’s trade value increased to Tk 347.90 crore from Thursday’s Tk 286.59 while the trade volume rose to 7.88 crore from previous session’s 6.95 crore shares.
Large cap securities continued to decline as previous sessions, but shares of the companies with weak fundamentals showed strength for reasons not known. Out of the traded 29 securities of the junk category shares know as Z group, 13 posited gains when nine incurred loss and seven remained unchanged.
The overall market, however, remained in favour of buyers as 155 issues ended lower against 118 gaining securities among 319 issues traded. Only 96 of the large-cap group scrips managed some gain at close when 137 suffered moderate to high level loss. Mutual funds were also among the day’s major lagging sector.
The most losing companies were Regent Textile, 5th ICB, MHSML, Simtex and Grameen 1. The top five advancing companies were Apex Food, Rangpur Foundry, AMCL (Pran), Beach Hatchery and Gemini Sea. Pharmaceuticals, engineering, oil and cement shares remained on high demand because of their strong fundamentals and sound track records for profitability.  Beximco Pharma topped the day’s turnover list followed by Quasem Drycell, Emerald Oil, Squire Pharma and Lafarge Cement.
Like DSE, Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also opened week flat in red yesterday, with the major CSCX index inching down at 8384.32.
Most of the issues traded closed lower on the day’s dull trade when the total trade value was Tk 22.87 crore for 71.46 lakh shares.
