The government would soon take initiatives for holding the trials of ‘war criminals’ residing in Pakistan, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal said yesterday. “Under the terms of the Simla Agreement signed after the Bangladesh War of Liberation, the trial process of 195 war criminals staying in Pakistan will begin soon,” the minister told reporters at the concluding program of a training camp for 300 members of Industrial Police-1 in Ashulia.
He said the foreign ministry is working on the modalities to bring back the war criminals. He also said that the trial of war criminals is underway in Bangladesh as per the law. “What Pakistan has said regarding the war crimes issue is unexpected,” he added. He also said that according to the historic Simla pact, the Pakistan government had wanted 195 war criminals to stand trial.
