Petrobangla opens up re-tender for 2D survey
Petrobangla, the state-owned energy company, yesterday invited re-tender for a 2D multi-client seismic survey in the quest for offshore hydrocarbons in the Bay of Bengal. Petrobangla chairman Istiaque Ahmad told The Independent that the government has opened up the re-tender for a seismic survey to find out potential natural gas resources in the Bay of Bengal. The last date for submission of bids is January 31, 2016. The opening of bids before authorised representatives of the bidders will take place at Petrobangla the same day.
The Petrobangla chief said the state-owned organisation would not have to bear any expenses because the work will be carried out with the funds of the company that will get the award to conduct the survey work. However, the government has yet to make it officially clear whether it is cancelling the previous bidding, for which interested companies submitted proposals in March. The government received tender proposals in March this year, but has since failed to award the survey contract to any of the bidders. The first study of its kind in the countrys history, the importance of seismic surveys came to the fore following the settlement of Bangladeshs maritime boundaries with Myanmar and India.
