The mild cold wave blowing across the northern plains has spread to the north-eastern tea valley of Srimangal, where the mercury slid to 8.4 degrees Celsius yesterday. Badalgachi in Naogaon has experienced the coldest night so far, with a minimum temperature of 7.5 degrees C on Wednesday.
But the nights are going to be a bit warmer since yesterday, as a cloud mass is building up near the south-western shore of Bangladesh at the Bay of Bengal, off West Bengal. A few showers may occur early today over the southern region and parts of Dhaka Division as a result, said sources at the Meteorological Office yesterday.
The sources added that the cold is likely to return with ferocity after this pause from next Wednesday. It has already begun sweeping the northern plains, with layers of fog shrouding the sun.
