Transgender runs for municipal polls

A transgender person, backed by ruling Awami League, is running for election to a councilor seat, reserved for women, in Kalaroa municipality in Satkhira. Dithi is general secretary of the Ward-9 unit of Juba League. The person will contest the election with the symbol “Bangle”. Dithi, who vows to remove inequality from the society, said: “I have the support of Awami League. If I win the election I will try my best to reduce discrimination in the society.”
