AL MP apprehensive of fair polls in Naria municipality
Ruling Awami League lawmaker and former deputy speaker of the parliament Shawkat Ali said he is worried about fair polls in Naria municipality in Sharaiatpur district as there is one rebel candidate in the foray violating code of conduct. A rebel mayoral candidate of Awami League in Naria municipality is violating the election code of conduct by creating a reign of terror in the area. Now, how can one expect free and fair election? I am a bit apprehensive of it, he said. Shawkat Ali said this to the journalists at the Election Commission (EC) secretariat after submitting a complaint to the EC in this regard. He said he wants assurance of fair election.
He further said, I came to meet the chief election commissioner, but he was busy with the commission meeting. I will inform it to the returning officer as well. I have told the officer in charge and superintendent of police about the situation.
Asked about why he came to EC, he said, The ruling Awami League mayoral candidate Haider Ali respects the election law and the EC. He is not a person like the rebel candidate. So, I have come here.
He alleged that whenever the son of ruling Awami League mayoral candidate campaign on behalf of his father he is chased by the rebel candidate.
The authorities should see the matter because such things are spoiling the election environment. I have trust on EC. So Im here, he added.
Asked whether BNP is also doing the same allegation, he said, There is no similarity between my allegation and BNP. I am talking about one municipality but BNP is trying to say more. I am not aware of the whole country.
