SIRAJGANJ: Awami League presidium member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim yesterday called upon BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia not to leave the field of the ensuing municipal polls at its middle stage, reports BSS. "Confessing her all mistakes in the past, Zia has decided to participate at last in the polls under the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. I hope, she will not leave the election at its mid-stage," the senior Awami League leader said while speaking as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting with the leaders-workers of proposed Mansur Nagar upazila Awami League (AL) in the district yesterday. Ratankanti Union Awami League president Abdul Moktadir Bakul presided over the meeting, also addressed, among others, by Krishak League vice-president Abdul Latif Tarin and Sirajganj Sadar Upazila AL general secretary Mizanur Rahman Dudu.
Pointing at the party leaders-workers, Nasim said, "The leader of the sheaf of paddy Khaleda Zia once said that allies of the BNP-led combine would not take part in any election under Sheikh Hasina government in any way."
He also quoted Khaleda Zia as saying they (Awami League) are autocrats and vote-thieves and so, she will not participate in any election under them. "Whereas, they (BNP and its allies) have proved Awami League is a democratic party by taking
part in the municipality polls under Sheikh Hasina realising their faults of the past," the Awami League leader added.
Later, in the afternoon, Mohammad Nasim exchanged views with the party leaders and workers at a rest house at Hatikumrul Road intersection.
At the meeting, leaders and workers of District Awami League, Awami Juba League, Awami Swechchhasebak League and Chhatra League including Hasibur Rahman Swapan, MP, MM Amzad Hossain Milon, MP, and Tanvir Imam, MP, were present.
