Pirojpur: Zianagar Upazila Parishad Chairman Masud Bin Sayeedi, also son of life-term convict on war crimes charges Delwar Hossain Sayedee, was barred from hoisting the national flag at a Victory Day function in the upazila, reports BSS. As per a circular of the upazila administration, Masud Bin Sayeedi was scheduled to raise the national flag at the function. But in the face of vigorous protest of local freedom fighter, the administration was forced to change the decision and requested upazila Muktijoddha Commander M Belayet Hossain to hoist the flag. Belayet Hossain raised the national flag at the function amid thunderous clapping of several hundreds of freedom fighters, students of schools and colleges and youths. On the other hand, freedom fighters boycotted a Victory Day function and reception at Bhandaria upazila as upazila Chairman M Uzzal Talukder, son of Pakistani collaborator late Ashraf Ali, hoisted the national flag. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) on September 17, 2014 awarded imprisonment till natural death to Jamaat nayeb-e-ameer Delwar Hossain Sayedee, modifying the verdict given by International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 more than 18 months ago.
