Indian police recovered the body of a Bangladeshi youth from a river in Indian territory opposite to Bontara border in Sadar upazila, reports UNB. The deceased was identified as Sadequl Islam, 20, son of Maksedul Islam of Laxmitala area of the upazila. Sources at Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said some Indian people spotted the body of Sadequl in the Atrai River, one and a half kilometer off Bangladesh territory, on Wednesday evening and informed police.
Later, Indian police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy. Family members, recognised Sadequl after they got his photo from BGB. A BGB-BSF flag meeting was held along the border on Thursday morning where BGB requested BSF to return the body. Contacted, commanding officer of BGB battalion-29 Lt Col Kurban Ali said the reason behind the death could not be known yet. BSF authorities said they will return the body of Sadequl to Bangladesh after competing legal procedure, he said.
