DU female student sets herself afire

A female student of the Persian Language and Literature of Dhaka University (DU) set herself on fire in a bathroom on the first floor of the TSC building yesterday. The victim was identified as Anjuman Ara, a third year student of the department and a resident of DU Sufia Kamal Hall. Monjurul Iqram, a student of the university’s Political Science department, who witnessed the incident, said at first they saw smoke coming out of the TSC building’s first floor.
When they rushed to the spot, they found the bathroom on the floor locked from inside. ‘We first requested her to open the door and when she refused we broke open the door and rescued her,” he added. Then the girl was rushed to the burn and plastic surgery unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
