Police yesterday filed two cases accusing 14 named and 90-95 unnamed people with Chawkbazar Police Station over recovery of sharp weapons, bomb-making materials from dormitories of Chittagong College the following clash between Islami Chhatra Shibir and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on Wednesday. Kamal Hossain, sub-inspector of Chawkbazar police station filed the cases under the Arms and Explosives Acts. “In the case which was lodged under Explosive Act making 14 identified and 90-95 unidentified people accused. Police arrested the 14 students from the college on Wednesday. In another case four students were sued there,” said constable Md Shafiqual Islam, on-duty operator of Chawkbazar police station. Police in raid at two dormitories of Chittagong College’s Suhrawardy and Sher-e-Bangla halls seized four machetes, six hockey sticks and for bomb making materials on Wednesday. During the raid and clash police detained at least 66 persons, however, later released 52, police sources added. Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jammat-e-Islami Bangladesh has been controlling Chittagong College and adjacent Hazi Mohammad Mohsin College from 1981 after killing Tobarok Hossain, assistant general secretary (AGS) of Student Council of Chittagong College.
