Abu Haider Rony, the real find of BPL-3 wants to take ‘go slow’ approach when his performance opened the talk about his inclusion for Bangladesh’s T20 team for the upcoming Asia Cup and World Twenty20.
Even though he was the product of Bangladesh’s age level cricket, Rony hogged the headline through highly competitive BPL. He finished the tournament with 21 wickets, second behind to Kevon Cooper’s 22 wickets. A wicket-less final cost him the top place which he firstly occupied during the first qualifier. In that match, he delivered the ‘ball of the tournament’ that not only uprooted the wicket of Lendl Simmons but also grounded him. It was the moment which no batsmen could witness but this wicket etched Rony’s name permanently to the BPL folklore.
No wonder, after such groundbreaking performance talk of possible inclusion into the national team would naturally begin.
“There are some young players who played well in the BPL. Yes Rony is one of them. He is in our radar but we want him to keep up the performance,” said chief selector Faruque Ahmed.
His inswinger and slower were sight to behold while he honed the skill of giving yorker to perfection. His yorker and ability to bowl at the block hole at the death overs won many matches for Comilla Victorians. The Bangladesh team had often failed to stop the run flow of the opponents at the death overs which also is believed to act in Rony’s favour.
He had already earned a name of death over specialist.
“Rony has been outstanding. He has the control and variation as well as has the ability to take wicket at regular interval. He could be an asset for Bangladesh team but again there is vast difference between domestic and international cricket. I hope he will continue honing his skill,” said Rony’s captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.
While everybody is excited about his prospect, Rony kept his feet on the ground.
“I have just started. I am yet to give it a think,” said Rony while he was on the way to his hometown Netrokona yesterday.
“This is not at my hands. I just know I have to perform well wherever I play. But what I can say, I will try to pay off if the selectors keep faith on me. That’s it.”
