After 22 months long hockey is going to role on turf of Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium when the Fu Wang Polymer 17th Victory Day Hockey begins tomorrow with seven teams taking part in the season’s inaugural competition.
Bangladesh Hockey Federation (BHF), who prevailed over great trouble recently after bringing some changes in the governing body, started their activities of the domestic competition with the Victory Day tournament.
This time no premier teams of the domestic hockey are taking part in the Victory Day tournament while seven teams including four services teams, only one club team, Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratisthan (BKSP) and Narayanganj district team are participating in the competition.
Bangladesh Army, Bangladesh Navy, Bangladesh Police and Bangladesh Air Force are the services teams and Raktim Sangha is the only club team.
Seven teams, splitting into two groups will play in the round robin league basis and four teams, top two from each group will move into the semifinal.
Champions team will receive Taka 50,000, runners up Tk 30,000, third and fourth placed will get Taka 10,000 each.
Kazi Mainuzzaman Pila, treasurer of BHF, stated all in a press conference yesterday at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium.
Mirza Farid Ahmed Milu, vice-president of the BHF, said that no premier team is not playing while they excused that right now they are not in a position to form their teams, as the inter-club players’ transfer is yet to be held.
