While Barisal Bulls will take on Comilla Victorians today at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, the battle of captaincy will come to the fore. It would be the second consecutive final in BPL in which Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Mahmudullah Riyad will be involved as captain.
Mashrafe beat Riyad in the last BPL in 2013 as captain when Dhaka Gladiators thrashed Riyad’s Chittagong Kings in the final. Ironically both of the two captains will again meet in the summit clash. This time Riyad’s Barisal Bulls will try to break the jinx, halting Mashrafe’s march.
Mashrafe’s Victorians however beat Riyad’s Bulls twice in the league phase, making them slight favourite ahead of the final.
“Both Mashrafe and Riyad proved that they are better skippers but the cricket game is a team game. If the players can’t do well, skipper can’t alone win the match,” said Barisal batsman Shahriar Nafees.
Riyad though was bit inured, he is expected to lead the side in the final match in what is considered as the revenge clash as far as the ‘loss of the Chittagong Kings in the last final’ and losses two matches in this BPL’s group phase is considered.
Nafees said they will leave no stone unturned in their bid to win the title.
“Our target is to play the same brand of cricket what we have been throughout the tournament. We need to stick to our natural and that’s the only way to be successful,” he revealed.
According to Nafees, the best two teams went through the final and so an intriguing clash is on the cards.
“Comilla played better cricket throughout the tournament. So, we have to give our best if we want to come out as winner. We’re giving them much respect. Tomorrow’s match will be tough for both teams,” he believed.
Bulls wouldn’t get the service of Chris Gayle in the most crucial match since he left the team to join his Big Bash side Melbourne Renegades. Gayle’s absence in the big match is considered as blow but Nafees differed, stating they won many matches without Gayle.
“There is no problem for us to play without Gayle. We won the match without him. If we can play according to our potential, we’ll be winner.”
