Comilla, Barisal lock horns in BPL finale today

Sports Reporter

A mouthwatering clash is on the cards as the Barisal Bulls and Comilla Victorians, arguably the best two teams of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), will lock horn in the grand finale today at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The final will kick-off at 6.30 pm
Both of the teams ended the league phase with seven wins but on the basis of net-run-rate Bulls came up as third behind Victorians and Rangpur Riders.
However it mattered little to them as they won the eliminator and qualifier-2 clash convincingly to set up the clash against the team who beat them twice in the group phase. Given their record against Bulls and the impact throughout the tournament made Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s Victorians a slight favourite ahead of the summit clash but Bulls resurgence was magical.
Bulls snatched the victory from the jaw of defeat for quite a couple of times and grew with confidence winnings four straight matches including the Eliminator and Qualifier-2.
Their last defeat however came against Victorians when they took them on in the second-leg match in which they were defeated by seven wickets.
Apart from being defeated by Victorians twice, they also tasted a nine-wicket defeat to Sylhet Super Stars in the league phase.
Mashrafe’s Victorians also tasted three defeats in the league phase, which came against Dhaka Dynamites, Sylhet Super Stars and Rangpur Riders.
They began the tournament with a crushing six-wicket defeat to Dynamites but gained the momentum amazingly to come on top.
Not many people believed they could make it final, at the start of the tournament but the inspirational captaincy of Mashrafe and British-born Pakistan’s Ashar Zaidi’s astounding performance took them to the final.
For personal point of view, Mashrafe will clinch all of the three BPL titles as captain as he successfully got the better of Bulls in the final. He earlier led Dhaka Gladiators twice in securing the title.
The final however will be followed by a cultural programme. After the match, a fireworks will be displayed to close the curtain of the tournament.
