A parliamentary watchdog yesterday recommended that the Fisheries and Livestock Ministry continue its rehabilitation programme for the fishermen who are hit by natural calamities, reports UNB. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Fisheries and Livestock Ministry also suggested the fisheries and livestock secretary and the director general of the Department of Livestock Services implement the recommendations of a subcommittee formed to investigate the corruption, nepotism and irregularities at eight state-owned dairy farms. The parliamentary body came up with the suggestions at a meeting held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with its chairman Mir Shawkat Ali Badshah in the chair, said a PID handout. The meeting was informed that a total of Tk 1.19 crore were given as assistance to the families of 247 fishermen who died due to natural calamities as part of the rehabilitation of the families of the fishermen who have died and remained missing following natural disasters in 16 districts.
The parliamentary watchdog also asked the ministry to expedite the construction of Sirajganj Government Veterinary College and complete it in time. The meeting also elaborately discussed testing and health clearance certificate needed for livestock export-import. Committee members Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Sayedul Hoque, Muhammad Golam Mostafa Bishwas, Khandaker Azizul Haq Arju attended the meeting.
