Speakers at a dissemination ceremony on ‘National Strategy for Spreading Hygiene’ yesterday laid emphasis on comprehensive initiatives to check all kinds of unhygienic practices and ensure good public health, reports BSS. They also emphasised on raising awareness for building good health practices and hoped that achieving the goal would not be impossible, as open defecation has been brought down to nearly zero per cent, according to a statistics of Bangladesh National Hygiene Survey, conducted by ICDDR’B and WaterAid in 2014.
Policy Support Unit (PSU) of government and Water Aid Bangladesh jointly organised the event in cooperation with UKAid at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital. Speaking on the occasion as chief guest, Local Government Division Secretary Abdul Malek said, “Most of the people in the country are aware of proper health habits but exercising of healthy practice are the main challenges.” Additional Secretary of Health Ministry Roksana Kader, Department of Public Health Engineering Chief Engineer Khaleda Ahsan and WaterAid Country Representative Khairul Islam also spoke on the occasion with additional secretary and PSU project director Kazi Abdul Nur in the chair. An innovative Five-Star award has been introduced to motivate the community schools and community clinics for spreading hygiene activities at the programme.
