Director Tokon Thakur’s short length feature film titled ‘Rajputtur’ (The Little Prince), based on Rabindranath Tagore’s novel ‘Shey’, received the uncut censorship certificate from the Film Censor Board recently.
To fulfill his nine-year old granddaughter’s demand for stories, Tagore wrote the story ‘Shey’ and included elements that would captivate a child’s imagination. Unusual characters, fearsome creatures, deities and mythological heroes all appear in the story. In addition to highlighting those, the film also focuses on various characters from several well known stories from Tagore, such as Mini and Kabuliwala from the memorable story ‘Kabuliwala’, Birpurush and his mother from ‘Birpurush’ as well as Amal and Sudha from Dakghar’.
The government-granted film, with duration of 56 minutes, starts with a little girl who is abducted by a rabbit and taken to an unfamiliar place. Sukumar, the prince, goes on a dangerous journey to rescue the little girl.
Bhaswar Bandyopadhyay, Sinthi and about 15 child artistes including Tapashi, Jayotu, Anandita, Parthibo, Muddho, Propa and Manha plays different roles in the film.
The shooting of the film took place at the Shalbon of Gazipur and the ancestral house of the first prime minister of the country Tajuddin Ahmed, in Kapasia.
From now on, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will take the initiative to screen the film in the 64 districts of Bangladesh.
