Narsingdi, Kushtia became free today

Narsingdi was liberated from the occupation of Pakistan Army by the freedom fighters on December 12 in 1971.
The district administration and Narsingdi Freedom Fighters Association and different political parties have chalked out programmes to celebrate the day. Narsingdi, 55 kilometers away from capital Dhaka, had played glorious role in the historic Language Movement, Anti-Ayub Movement and the Liberation War.
The people of Narsingdi started taking preparation for resisting the Pakistani Army by setting 20 training camps, participated by hundreds of youths and students. The freedom struggle in Narsingdi was  under Sector 2, led by Major Generel (rtd) Shafiullah.  On April 6, Pakistan Air Force dropped bombs killing about 12 persons and burning down hundreds of rice and jute warehouses and shops.
On April 7, they set up main camps at Narsingdi Telephone Office, Narsingdi pourashava, and resorted to killing, raping, looting and setting fire to houses and buildings.
 On this day in 1971, freedom fighters along with general public attacked Pakistan Army and freed Narsingdi from Pakistani occupation.  A total of 116 heroic sons were martyred at different places in the district during the decisive fight against Pakistan occupation forces in the district.
Meanwhile, Narsingdi district administration has taken up different programme, including  a reception to freedom fighters, injured freedom fighters and their family members at about 11.00 am, discussion meeting and cultural function, celebrate the day.
Kushtia: Engaging the Pakistan army in 22 battles between April 16 and December 10 in 1971 Kushtia was finally liberated on December 11. To commemorate the victory The "Allied Liberation" memorial has been built in Chourhash on the outskirts of Kushtia town.  It was here that the Mukti Bahini along with the Allied Forces engaged the Pakistan army in the final and deadly battle at four in the afternoon of December 10 that continued till the wee hours of December 11 when the enemy forces succumbed.  In the battle, 130 freedom fighters and Bengali civilians and 170 Indian soldiers were martyred and almost 400 Pakistani soldiers were slain.
