BPL enters qualifier stage today

After 30 intriguing matches, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) enters the qualifier stage, with four teams vying for a place in the final.
The top two teams on the points table, Comilla Victorians and Rangpur Riders, will lock horns at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today (Saturday).
The winners will reach the final straightway. The losers will get another chance to move into the final, and who would they face will be determined by the day’s second match at the same venue. The second match is considered as the eliminator match, because the losers will be eliminated. The winners will take on the losers of the first qualifier match at the same venue on Sunday.  Dhaka Dynamites, who are among the last four with the help of luck and pluck, will take on mighty Barisal Bulls in the eliminator match.

Three teams —- Comilla Victorians, Rangpur Riders and Barisal Bulls —- ended the group phase with 14 points, but on the basis of the net run-rate, Comilla emerged as the league leader. Rangpur and Barisal secured the next two slots, and Dhaka came up as fourth, securing just eight points.
If the last group match of the BPL-3 is anything to go by, Dhaka’s chances in the eliminator match look bleak. The two teams faced each other in the last group match, in which Bulls snatched a two-wicket victory from the jaws of defeat. Bulls’ West Indies recruit Rayad Emrit earned the fascinating victory when the side’s prospect of winning seemed bleak, after being being reduced to 94 for eight in 16.1 overs. His astonishing 28-ball 54 not out sank Dhaka and also gave his side a psychological edge ahead of the eliminator clash.
