A top BNP leader has accused the Election Commission (EC) of acting as a “disciple” of the government.
“The EC is doing everything to fulfil the government’s agenda for the forthcoming municipal polls,” BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi told reporters yesterday.
“There is a bid to foil the December 30 municipal polls through the very presence of the administration. The EC also knows about it,” Rizvi said.
“The EC’s stance is clear to the nation. It is involved in satisfying the government’s unrestrained greed,” he added.
“Ministers and ruling party MPs are continuously violating election rules, but the EC has failed to take any action against them,” he alleged.
“The EC had acted in a similar manner in the past during national and city corporation elections. Now, it is trying to help ruling party candidates to win in the forthcoming municipal polls,” the BNP leader said.
Rizvi, who was recently released from jail, also accused the law enforcement agencies of playing a partisan role by arresting BNP leaders and activists across the country.
He further alleged that the government is using law enforcers to conduct mass arrests in order to influence the municipal polls.
