BCL, Juba League men block road, rail lines

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested 24 people and seized 14 fire arms from a motorcade at Lalpur area in Feni yesterday evening. Protesting the arrest, the Dhaka-Chittagong highway and rail lines were blocked allegedly by the activists of ruling Awami League’s two associate bodies. The arrestees are allegedly activists of Juba League and Bangladesh Chhattra League (BCL), associate bodies of ruling AL, and are supporters of Feni-2 lawmaker Nizam Hazari. They were arrested at 7:30pm when they were returning on three microbuses from Sonagazai in Feni after attending a protest meeting against local Juba League leader Azizul Haque’s murder. At Lalpur, a RAB team challenged them and seized the firearms, including four shotguns, five pistols, and two LG, and arrested the 24, said sources. Major Mozammel Haque of RAB-7 confirmed the seizure and the arrests. After hearing the news of arrests, Juba League and BCL activists put barricades on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway and Dhaka-Chittagong rail line around 9pm. They also put barricades on Noakhali–Feni, Feni-Sonagazi roads demanding release of arrested leaders and activists. According to police, some BCL and Juba League activists also vandalised the Feni Rail Station control room around 10pm.
