After the completion of 30-match group stage, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL’s) most exciting phase will kick-start at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) today.
Comilla Victorians will face-off Rangpur Riders in the first qualifier due to start at 2pm.
BPL franchisee Dhaka Dynamites on the other hand will lock horns with Barisal Bulls in the eliminator of the BPL-3 to be played at the same ground at 6:30pm.
With better run-rate Comilla Victorians are on the pole position. They finished the group stage with 14. Rangpur Riders and Barisal Burners also finished with an identical 14 points but they placed second and third on the basis of better net run-rate.
Dhaka Dynamites ended with fourth, notching eight points.
Sylhet Super Stars and Chittagong Vikings, who derailed from the competition fray, finished their campaigns with six and four respectively.
In the aftermath of the group phase, Dhaka Dynamites skipper Kumar Sangakkara and Shakib Al Hasan, icon and skipper of Rangpur Riders are on the peak of point-table in their respective batting and bowling department.
Sangakkara grabbed the top position leaving behind Chittagong Vikings skipper Tamim Iqbal, who was the top-scorer in the first and second phase of the group stage. He surpassed Tamim by his 48-run innings in his 9th match against Sylhet Super Stars. Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batsman, dubbed as the living legend, scored 339 runs from nine matches with two brisk half-centuries. He of course didn’t perform in the 10th and last group match against Barisal Bulls.
Tamim finished his business with 298 runs from nine matches with three half-centuries. Tillakaratne Dilshan closely followed him with 260. Vikings Sri Lanka recruit Dilshan made the scores with one half-century from 10-match group road string.
Shakib, who didn’t play one match due to his suspension for his unlawful behaviour with match umpire, picked up 17 wickets from nine matches with the best figures of 4-16 that he made against Dhaka Dynamites on November 25.
New pace sensation Abu Haider Rony of Comilla Victorians claimed the identical 17 wickets that he got from 10 matches with the best of 4-28. But Shakib stole the top spot with better economical bowling rate. The fight in today’s match will also be held between Shakib and Rony. The spectators will look to them, who will overtake each other.
