Rangpur Riders’ Caribbean recruit all-rounder Darren Sammy said that they want to go through the final of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) by their gun blazing performance against Comilla Victorians in the first play-off of the cash-rich Twenty20 tournament.
“You know when we started this tournament we had target to go at least play-offs. Now we have first opportunity to put ourselves in the final. We could not show our best cricket yet. Tomorrow is the wonderful opportunity to do that together ourselves into the final,” said Darren Sammy.
“There are different areas we have to improve. But Rangpur has not played the best cricket. We’ve no batsmen in the top five. You know you don’t win the tournament if the guys not were being but good thing is that we play as a team,” Sammy told reports after the end of their pre-match day practice session inn Mirpur yesterday.
“You know we gel well together and played as a team and we have to do it tomorrow. It’s needed for us the total team’s effort to come out and be victorious against Comilla,” he added.
The 31-year-old all-rounder said that they are focusing more on the next and first play-off game against Comilla Victorians to go through the final after completing the first target.
“Obviously we’ll discuss them. But we’ll more focus what we can do as a Twenty20 team. We know we want to start our basic. Our spinners will play a crucial role. We’ve different type of batsmen. They didn’t bat complete cricket game that we want to,” the all-rounder thought.   “We’ve trying continuously to improve. Tomorrow we focus what we could do. You know as a team I don’t see any reason for us to play in the final.”
He said that they will look to play their normal and basic game to win the match for going into the covetous final of the BPL-3.  “So far, the most of the matches you know the team bowl first after winning the toss and win. Nobody has control over the toss. I think whatever you do you just up to do well. The team that you know play better cricket normally wins the day,” St. Lucia-born lad reckoned.
Sammy, who played BPL first time for Rangpur Riders led by Shakib Al Hasan, termed Victorians as good side and stated that if they could apply their basics properly then they will be victorious against Comilla.
“They’re a good side. You know as a team our guys have respect to opposition. They played well but we played the last match against them and defeated them. We’ve few ideas what we’ve to do to be victorious. If we stick to our basics to our sense and we do it well. We should come out on top,” Sammy, who hit 24 off 20 against Victoria in their last group match, singled out.
