A Bangladesh-Germany joint produced film titled ‘Boishommo’ (Journey to the Heart), scripted and directed by Adam Dawla, will be screened today at 10am as a part of the 15-day event titled ‘Bangladesh Film Festival 2015’ at the National Art Plaza of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Segun Bagicha in the city.
Produced by Kirtonkhola Productions, the full-length feature film tells the story of a 14-year-old rich and spoiled boy called Jimmy who habitually discriminates the underprivileged. His father is an industrialist who exports cooking pots to Europe. When Jimmy insults his father during a quarrel one day, the father gives the boy a cooking pot and asks him to sell it as a way to prove his own worth. Out in the open, Jimmy realises how helpless he is in the streets of his own city. The reality he sees around himself is far from the reality he has known all his life as a rich boy. The people that surround him now are the vast majority of Bangladesh, people who run from car to car in the streets to sell small things and thus guarantee their survival, people who live in the slums where children are involved in drug-dealing and stealing, people who believe that the rich are responsible for their poverty. But these are also the people who sing and dance in the evening, people who have faith in themselves and in their dignity, people who never give up despite all the odds in their lives.
Abir Hossain Ankon has played the role of Jimmy, the protagonist of the film. Among others, Shamim Abdullah Zahedy, Mita Huq, and artistes of Tokai Natyadal played various roles in this film.
On the other hand, Alamgir Kabir’s film ‘Shimana Periye’ and ‘Kacher Deyal’ by noted filmmaker Zahir Raihan will be screened today at 4pm and 6pm respectively.
To note, Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor inaugurated the festival yesterday, while Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu was present as chief guest. Late noted filmmaker Tareque Masud’s ‘Matir Moyna’ was screened as the opening film.
Tomorrow, ‘Surja Dighal Bari’ jointly directed by Sheikh Niamat Ali and Mashiuddin Shaker and Prosun Rahman’s ‘Sutopar Thikana’ will be screened at 4 pm and at 6pm respectively. l
