Cold related diseases such as pneumonia and diarrhoea have broken out in Jhenidah taking the lives of at least 10 children since November, hospital sources said.
About 100 children with complaints of pneumonia and diarrhoea are coming to outpatient ward at Jhenidah hospital every day for treatment.
Pediatrician said a change in climate is the main reason behind the spread of the diseases.
The hospital has 53 beds, which include 3 for children, for such patients.
Resident medical officer (RMO) of Jhenidah Sadar Hospital Dr Swapan Kumar Kundu said the number of patients in the district have been increasing due to persisting cold weather.
Treatment of the affected children is being hampered due to shortage of physicians in the hospital, he added.
Eight beds are officially allocated in the pediatric ward of the hospital for the children, while seven more have been arranged for the children affected by pneumonia and diarrhea.
The other children are being treated at the Outpatient ward, said the RMO.
The RMO said 43 children attacked by pneumonia and 11 affected by  diarrhea have been given beds until Tuesday.
Many of the children have been kept on floor of the pediatric ward.
Only one, out of two, pediatric specialist has been struggling to cope with the rush of child patients, Swapan said.
The RMO said three children have died of pneumonia, four due to birth weight and three for neonatal complications since last November.
Pediatric specialist in Jhenaidah Sadar hospital Dr Anwarul Islam said they have appealed to the higher authorities for appointment of more specialist
physicians, surgeons and staff to ensure better treatment at the   hospital.
