Permanent Representative of Bangladesh to the UN Masud bin Momen has said the developed nations that are responsible for massive carbon emission should finance the affected developing countries, reports UNB.
“Bangladesh, as one of the climatic vulnerable countries, has given priority to deal with the issues of climate change,” he said during his meeting with the President of the 70th Session of United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Mogens Lykketoft at the latter’s chamber at the UN Headquarters on Wednesday.
Momen informed the President that during its Chairmanship of Global Forum on Migration and Development next year Bangladesh would try to engage the UN member states in promoting migration, said a PID handout issued yesterday.
The UNGA President said he would host a high-level event to start the implementation of both SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) and climate agreement in April next.
Momen conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the Speaker of the Parliament and Foreign Minister to the UNGA President.
He lauded the UNGA President’s role in steering the GA and the UN as a whole during his tenure and assured him the fullest cooperation of Bangladesh delegation.
