Bagerhat: Members of Rapid Action Battalion in a drive arrested a forest officer of Sundarbans east division from Dubla area in Sharankhola upazila on Wednesday night for his alleged involvement in war crimes in Mymenisngh during the Liberation War in 1971, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Yusuf Alam, 58, of Chanpur Harinath Kanda village in Jamalpur district and a station officer of Sharnkhola range under Sundarbans east division.
A team of RAB conducted a drive in the area at night and arrested him, said Mohammad Shah Alam, officer-in-charge of Sarankhola Police Station.
Later, the elite force handed him over to Sharankhola police.
Earlier on Wednesday, International Crimes Tribunal issued warrants for the arrest of eight war crimes suspects for committing crimes like murder, rape, torture in Muktagaccha in Mymensingh district during the Liberation War in 1971.
