A BNP leader was killed and three others were injured in a clash with his neighbour at Dhanikhola Bhatipara village in Trishal upazila yeserday afternoon.
The victim has been identified as Enamul Haque alias Chand Miah, 45, secretary of BNP Dhanikhola Union unit.
Local people said Chand Miah along with the workers of electricity department was working to get electricity connection to his house on the day of incidence. At around 3.30 pm an altercation ensued between workers and the Chand’s meighbour Fazlul Haque following cutting down of branches of some nearby trees for the purpose of establishing the electric line.
At one stage, both the groups engaged in a clash with sticks and iron rods, injuring four people, said Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Trishal Police Station.
Criticall injured Chand was rushed to Community Based Medical College, Bangladesh, where he succumbed to his injuries at around 4.30 pm, said the OC.
Three other injured persons are Chand’s elder brother Azizul Islam, 65, and nephews-- Motiur Rahman Parvez, 30 and Ariful Islam, 25. They were treated at local clinics, police said.
