Sale of warm clothes has gained momentum in Rajshahi as cold weather has been sweeping the northern region for the last few days.
After sudden drizzling on last Saturday night, winter has started knocking at the door.
Due to the situation, sale of winter clothes has increased, both in the different posh markets and roadside shops of the city.
Rich people are going to the posh shopping malls in the New Market and Shaheb Bazaar to buy warm clothes like sweaters, jackets, cardigans, woolen caps etc.
On the other hand, people with low income are crowding the roadside shops to buy second-hand warm clothes to protect themselves from the biting cold.
“I have sold a number of second-hand warm clothes. Demand for used warm clothes is much higher than the new ones,” said Ali Ahmed Sumon, owner of a shop at a roadside market near Zero Point of the city.
He informed that low and fixed income group people including rickshaw-pullers, day labourers and ordinary employees of different government and private organisations are crowding his shop.
Sahnewaz Ali, owner of JB Garments of Shaheb Bazaar Clothe market, said he sells new warm clothes, including jeans jackets, sweaters, cardigans, woolen blazers and sweaters. He further said well-off people, especially youths, are buying these items from his shop as their quality and designs are good. Mizanur Rahman Mizan, a representative of a renowned pharmaceutical company and a resident of Mohammadpur Tikapara area of the city, informed he had bought two woollen sweaters for his children from JB Garments. The quality and collection of warm dresses is good, but the price of children items is very high, he added.
