Youth dies mysteriously

Staff Reporter, Ctg

A young man died mysteriously at Mia Khan Nagar under Bakalia Police Station early yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Mohammad Azad, 18, son of Shamsul Haque, a resident of Bakalia area.
Police suspect that he died falling from a three-storey building as he went there to commit theft.
However, family members of the victim claimed that he was killed as he bore many injury marks in the body, including throat and neck.
“Around 3am, Azad went there to steal things and climbed a three-storey building. When he sensed that the watchmen saw him, he fell down getting frightened,” said Abul Mansur, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bakalia Police Station.
“He fell down on iron rods and tin kept on the ground. He got bloody injuries as the iron rods pierced through different parts of his body, including throat and neck,” said the OC.
“Local people and watchmen whisked him off to Chittagong Medical College Hospital; however, on-duty doctors declared him dead,” added the OC.
“Local people informed us that he was a burglar and drug addict,” also said the OC.
“He was not thief. He was killed. Several injury marks were found in his body. The watchmen and some local influential people killed him after tying him with a pillar.
He was also slaughtered,” said Mohammad Raju, brother-in-law of the diseased. “As killers are influential, police are now trying to cover up the real incident,” alleged Raju.
When asked about Raju’s allegation, the OC said, “They did not lodge any complaint against anyone.”
Contacted, Pankaj Barua, assistant sub-inspector of CMCH police outpost, told The Independent, “Azad was admitted with throat and neck injuries to CMCH.”
