Proper planning and policy are needed for emergence of Bangladesh as global Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) hub like neighbouring India, said Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal.
The minister said this yesterday after attending the closing ceremony of the two-day long BPO Summit Bangladesh 2015, organised by the Bangladesh Association of Call Centre and Outsourcing (BACCO) and ICT Division, at a hotel in the capital.
Speaking on the occasion, Kamal said, the most promising sector of Bangladesh is cricket and the second one is ICT sector.
Kamal said that the global market size of ICT and BPO is $1.3 trillion. Bangladesh earns only $200 million from this even though it has the main resource to excel in this sector which is human resource.
Giving the example of neighboring India, he said that India has been earning nearly $ 130 billion from this industry and grabs about 10 per cent of the global market.
“If they can do it, we can also.
All we need is proper planning and policy”, he said.
“Digital Bangladesh is our future. I strongly believe that we can fasten the growth of our GDP through ICT sector”, he added.
The BPO summit ended yesterday with the hope of creating employment opportunities for 2,00,000 people in the next six years.
Speaking on the occasion, Junaid Ahmed Palak, State Minister for ICT said, the ICT Division takes plan to provide employment opportunities for one crore people.
Palak said that the global recession which was prevailing in the last couple of years works in our fever. “It is because the big companies want to cut down their cost by outsourcing from other countries”, he said that there lies Bangladesh’s opportunity.
He said every year, around 2,50,000 graduates enter into the employment market. “We target to provide appropriate training to a bigger chunk of this 2,50,000 graduates so that they can enter into the BPO sector”.
Ahmadul Haque, president of BACCO and the Secretary of the ICT Division, Shyam Shundor Shikdar also spoke on the occassion.
During the two day long summit, a total of 12 seminars were organised where 79 local and 9 international speakers took part and provided their opinion.
