Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu yesterday said the country has achieved international recognition through attaining global approval for quality conformity infrastructure system, reports UNB.
“It has become evident through recent endorsement of an aquaculture food safety system as equivalent to the European Union,” he said while addressing the closing ceremony of BEST Programme at a hotel in the capital.
He said once there was no comprehensive and coordinated regulatory framework to ensure the supply of safe and quality products to the market.
But, after successful implementation of the Bangladesh Quality Support Programme (BQSP) and Better Work & Standards Programme (BEST), the Industries Minister said Bangladesh has achieved a major milestone. “We need to ensure the quality of goods and services during import and export. Quality of goods and services is ensured through accreditation, certification, testing or inspection,” he added.
Recognising the development and necessity of quality improvement, he said, the government approved the National Quality Policy for Goods and Services, 2015 in November this year to ensure that the goods and services of Bangladesh attain international standard by developing a modernised National Quality Infrastructure and Technical Regulation Framework.
Industries Secretary M Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan and Ambassador and Head of Delegation of European Union in Dhaka Pierre Mayaudon also spoke on the occasion.
