The High Court (HC) yesterday stayed for six months the process to hold election to Ranishankail municipality of Thakurgaon over demarcation issue, reports UNB.
An HC bench comprising Justice Zinat Ara and Justice AKM Shahidul Huq passed the order following a writ petition filed by a councillor candidate.
Shariful Islam filed the writ this week challenging the legality of the announcement of the election schedule without fixing the demarcation of the municipality and issuing gazette on it.
The court also issued a rule asking the government to explain why the announcement of the polls schedule without demarcating the municipality and issuing gazette on it should not be declared illegal.
