Awami League yesterday asked the party men, who have filed their nominations to vie fort the mayoral posts in the December-30 municipal polls without party’s approval, to withdraw their candidature by the next 24 hours, reports UNB.
In a press release, the party said, “A humble request is being made to those who are contesting the municipal polls against the mayoral posts beyond the decision of Bangladesh Awami League’s central parliamentary board to withdraw their nominations by the next 24 hours.”
Otherwise, the party warned, stern action will be taken against them for violating the party discipline.
There is no official number but according to party sources, there are as many as 50 rebel aspirants adamant for vying the polls. There were more, but the party has managed to persuade about 20 aspirants against running for the polls, the sources added.
