The enthusiasm for the much anticipated series between Bangladesh and India stacked up as the arrival of the Indian team approached closer. The series which includes a one-off Test and three-match ODI series is believed to be heated given the incident of the past game between the two teams in the World Cup in which Bangladesh tasted a bitter experience before losing the game by a massive margin. The umpiring errors are believed to play a catalyst role in Bangladesh’s defeat and the fan showed a furious reaction in the social media outlet.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) however banned all kind of banners in the stadium sensing the fans could show hated slogans.
However the expectation is higher on Bangladesh given their recent form and the Indian team also showed no intention to be relaxed. The Indian side which is now in Kolkata is scheduled to arrive in Bangladesh on June 8 but had no plan to practice on that day. Nonetheless according to the new schedule which they sent to the BCB’s cricket operation, they would start practice at afternoon on June 8, immediate after their arrival to the country. They asked the cricket operations to arrange the practice at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium which will host the lone Test between the two sides, starting from June 10. It will be the only second time the ground will host a Test after the Bangladesh-Australia Test in 2006.
Since the Bangladesh team will practice at Fatullah at afternoon, the BCB wants the Indian team to practice at Mirpur. BCB cricket operations manager Sabbir Khan said they sent a letter to the Indian team informing that the time in which they want to practice at Fatullah, coincides the scheduled practice of Bangladesh and so the Indian team would have to practice at Mirpur if they want.
“They have no practice scheduled on June 8 but they informed us that they want to practice immediate after their arrival to the country,” BCB’s cricket operations manager Sabbir Khan told the reporters yesterday.
“Bangladesh team will practice at Fatullah on that day at the same time when Indian team asked for a practice facility there. Since the schedule of Bangladesh’s practice session is fixed earlier, they would have to practice at Mirpur. We sent a letter to them informing the situation.”
Bangladesh however would start their full fledged practice session at Fatullah from today. The team was busy with sorting out the strength and weakness of the Indian team by analysing the video footage of the Indian team. Head coach Chandika Hathurusingha supervised the video analysis session and divulged the strategic plan which Bangladesh should execute on the ground. The players and the team management however remained tightlipped on the strategic plan.
“The bowlers were shown on how to bowl to the Indian batsmen while the batsmen were shown in which channel the Indian bowlers bowl good. That’s just a normal session which a team used to do ahead of any series,” said Khaled Mahmud Sujon who was confirmed as the team manager of the Bangladesh team once again.
“Two days ago at night the CEO told me over phone to continue. So, I’m continuing my job as the team manager for the upcoming series.”
Sujon, also a former skipper said that the board is soon going to appoint a team manger for the team on permanent basis.
“It is a part of the team. It is essential for the team like the coach. I think a permanent team manager should be appointed for the team. The continuation of the job will be better for the team. We are unlucky that we have no permanent team manager. But the board is soon going to appoint a team manager for the team on permanent basis,” he informed.
However the former all-rounder thought the three days practice at Fatullah would come as good.
“At Fatullah, we will practice in the next three consecutive days. Actually we have to spend too many times to prepare the ground ahead of the forthcoming home series. A good number of domestic and international matches have been played at Fatullah. Players have enough experience to play here. It will not be very bad for us to practice in the next three days.”
