About five hundred victims have migrated from erosion-hit Ilisha and Rajapur unions in Bhola to other parts of the country, sources here said.
They are among one thousand families who have been rendered homeless in two unions due to the erosion by the river Meghna during the past rainy season.
At the time, about 200 acres of land and five kilometers of Bhola- Laxmipur road and two bazaars were devoured by the river.
The sources said many of the affected people, who became homeless and unemployed, have migrated to Dhaka, Chittagong and other parts of the country.
The victims have left their household materials on wayside before migration. one Mostafa Mamber, 60, said about 500 people of the area have left for Dhalka, Chittagong and other areas. Prominent among those are Wahid Majhi, 45, Nurul Hoque, 30, Hossain Majhi, 50, and Sala Uddin, 35.
Sources said Commerce Minister Tofail Ahamed had distributed about Tk 35 lakh among the erosion victims after the disaster from his personal fund.
While the relief ministry also distributed cash money and relief materials, but those left homeless were not rehabilitated.
Local people said the erosion victims were deprived of proper rehabilitation and forced to migrate to other areas.
