Woman killed for dowry

A woman was strangled to death allegedly by her husband and rival wife over family feud at Uttar Kanta Nagour Bashhaata village in Dhunut upazila yesterday at around 11am.
The deceased was identified as Anjuara Khatun, 30, wife of Dulal Pramanik of village Uttar Kanta Nagar Bashhaata village in Dhunut upazila. She was the mother of three children.
Family sources said Dulal Pramanik married Anjuara Khatun, daughter of late Sirajul Islam of village Rangamati in the same upazila about 15 years ago.
Earlier, Dulal divorced two wives. Anjuara was his third wife.
After the marriage, Dulal Pramanik often tortured Anjuara Begum to bring Tk five lakh as dowry from her parents. Dulal married Chaina Khatun as fourth wife in the same upazila three months ago.
After the marriage, quarrel started between Dulal Pramanik and Anjuara Begum.
At one stage Dulal and China Begum planned to strangle Anjuaara. According to the plan, they sent Anjuaras three children to their grand-parents house on December 8. They returned home yesterday and locked in an altercation with Anjura over family affairs and strangled her to death in a room and fled the scene.
On information, Dhunut police recovered the body and sent it to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
A case was lodged with the concerned police station in this connection said, Mizanur Rahman, Officer-in-charge of thepolice station.
